The 5.6×50mm Magnum cartridge and longside the 5.6×50mmR were developed in Germany as a legal hunting round for Roh deer up to a distance of 200 meters. The two cartridges are dimensionally and ballistically identical except that the Magnum version is rimless. Basically a 222 Remington Magnum with a 3mm longer body.

Typically firing a 3.2-gram (Bad rounding hereScript error gr) bullet at 1,100 metres per second (Bad rounding hereScript error ft/s), this cartridge occupies a useful performance niche approximately halfway between the .222 Remington and the 5.6×57mm, similar to the slightly less powerful .222 Remington Magnum. In North America it is considered a varmint hunting cartridge.[1]
